Growth Trends

Every product, every period, on one screen

Month-by-month totals in a spreadsheet tell you what happened. A heatmap tells you what changed. Growth Trends lays your catalog out period by period and shades each product against its own history, so seasonality, stockouts, launch spikes and quiet decline are visible before you read a single number.

The heatmap

Read the shape of the catalog in one pass

Each column is one period, each cell is that period’s value for the metric you picked, and the shading compares a product only against its own months — never against other products. That’s the whole point: a $500 SKU and a $50,000 SKU each get a full range of colour, so a small product’s collapse is as visible as a big one’s.

Shaded within the row, not the table. Colour is relative to that product’s own best and worst period, so big sellers don’t wash out everything else.

A sparkline per product. The trend column carries the same series as a line, for when you want the shape rather than the numbers.

Sortable columns and a running total. Sort by any period or by the total to rank the catalog however the question needs.

Heatmap off if you prefer. Toggle the shading and it’s a plain, dense comparison table.

Periods & metrics

Same table, four time grains and four questions

Group by day to debug a bad week, by week to watch a launch settle, by month to find your season, by year to see whether the business is actually growing. Then switch the metric: revenue answers “did we sell more”, net profit answers “did we keep more”, ROI answers “was the cash well spent”, and units strips price changes out of the picture entirely.

Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly. One control changes what a column means; the layout and the shading logic stay the same.

Revenue, net profit, ROI or units. Rising revenue next to falling net profit is the pattern worth catching — two clicks apart.

Any date range, or a preset. YTD, last 30 days, last year or a custom window — the columns rebuild to match.

Filter to what you care about. Narrow to a product, a group or the whole catalog before you start reading.

Period-over-period change

The number under the number

Under every value is its change against the period immediately before it — green with an up arrow when it grew, red with a down arrow when it fell. Revenue of $2,500 with ▲ 25% means this month came in a quarter ahead of last month. Colour shows you where to look; the percentage tells you whether it’s worth acting on.

Always the adjacent period. Month against last month, week against last week — it follows whatever grouping you’ve chosen.

Big percentages are a signal, not noise. A jump from zero or a drop to zero reads as 100% — usually a launch, a stockout or a suppressed listing.

Colour and number disagree on purpose. A dark cell with a red percentage means “still one of this product’s best months, but cooling” — the earliest warning you get.

$2,500 ▲ 25%

$2,500 — revenue for this period.

▲ 25% — up a quarter on the previous period.

Dark blue — one of this product’s strongest periods in the range.

Patterns worth catching

Four things the shading tends to find first

Seasonality

The same months going dark year after year — buy for the peak instead of reacting to it.

Stockouts

A pale cell wedged between two dark ones. The demand was there; the stock wasn’t.

Launch spikes

A jump from zero, then the level it settles at — the number to plan the second order on.

Quiet decline

A row fading month by month. No single month looks alarming, which is exactly why it gets missed.
