Amazon FBA Fulfillment Fees

What Amazon charges to pick, pack and ship each unit — with the full 2026 rate tables, the size tier definitions that drive them, and the surcharges layered on top.

Updated August 2026 · US (Amazon.com) rates
Scope: the rates on this page are for the US marketplace (Amazon.com), in USD. Amazon publishes a separate fee schedule and currency for every other marketplace, so these figures do not carry over to the UK, Germany, Japan or elsewhere. SellerGuards tracks 13 marketplaces and applies each one's own fee schedule to your orders automatically — this page documents the US rates specifically.

What the fulfillment fee covers

The FBA fulfillment fee pays for picking, packing, shipping, customer service and returns handling. It is charged per unit shipped, and it is driven entirely by physical characteristics — size tier and weight. Price does not enter into it, with one exception covered below.

That is why the same $3.65 fee is trivial on a $40 product and ruinous on a $9 one, and why the fee is often the deciding factor in whether a low-priced product can work on FBA at all.

Surcharges and discounts on top

The $10 cliffCrossing from $9.99 to $10.49 raises the referral fee and forfeits the Low-Price FBA discount. On a small standard item that is roughly $0.85 of extra cost for $0.50 of extra revenue.

Why the tier boundary matters more than the rate

Within a tier, the steps are small — a few cents per weight band. Between tiers they are not. A product at 16.1 oz is Large Standard rather than Small Standard, and the fee moves from $3.65 to $4.55: $0.90 per unit for one tenth of an ounce.

The same applies to dimensions. Small Standard tops out at 0.75 inches thick; a package at 0.8 inches is charged as Large Standard regardless of weight. Before finalising packaging, check which side of each boundary you land on — reducing box thickness by a fraction is among the cheapest margin gains available.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Amazon FBA fulfillment fee calculated?

It is a flat per-unit charge determined by the product's size tier and its shipping weight — not by its price. Amazon assigns a size tier from the packaged dimensions and weight, then looks up the fee for that tier and weight band. A small standard unit at 2 oz costs $3.06; a large standard unit at 2 lb costs $5.59.

What are the Amazon FBA size tiers?

There are four main groupings for the US marketplace. Small Standard is up to 16 oz and 15 × 12 × 0.75 inches. Large Standard is up to 20 lb and 18 × 14 × 8 inches. Large Bulky is up to 50 lb and 59 × 33 × 33 inches with longest side plus girth of 130 inches or less. Extra-Large covers anything beyond that, split into weight bands at 50, 70 and 150 lb.

What is billable weight?

For Large Bulky and Extra-Large tiers, Amazon charges on the greater of the actual unit weight or the dimensional weight, calculated as length × width × height ÷ 139. This means a light but bulky item is charged as though it were heavier. Standard-size tiers are charged on unit weight.

Is there a peak season FBA fee surcharge?

Yes. From October 15 to January 14, Amazon adds roughly $0.19 to $0.29 per unit to standard fulfillment fees. It applies on top of the normal rate for the size tier, and it lands in the same quarter as the higher peak storage rates.

What is Low-Price FBA?

Items priced under $10 qualify for discounted FBA fulfillment rates, averaging about $0.77 less per unit. For example, a small standard item at 2 oz costs $2.29 instead of $3.06. It applies automatically based on your selling price, which means crossing above $10 raises your fulfillment fee as well as your referral fee.

Do apparel products pay a higher FBA fee?

Yes. Apparel pays roughly $0.40 more per unit than the non-apparel rate for the same size and weight tier, reflecting higher handling and return rates in the category.
